Big Swinging D*ckheads - The Dana & Eddie Saga

The long-drawn-out stand-off between Zuffa & Matchroom reached boiling point and I couldn’t be happier. Group chats, insta-feeds and social timelines set on fire with the buzz of 100-million notifications.

The story - Dana White nabbed Matchroom's welterweight-money-maker, Conor Benn from under their too-trusty nosey’s.

Benn was out of contract with Matchroom, an amateur-hour error that caught Eddie with his pants down with no-one noticeable left in his stable but AJ to pull ‘em up.

Many believe Hearn lost this battle by a low-blow of embarrassment. Contractually, Matchroom would have had the right to equal Zuffa’s offer. The reality is that they decided not to. Why? The answer is simple. It’s bad business.

Conor Benn is not a World Champion. Outside of the UK, he’s not even a recognisable name. Few in the U. S. of mothereffing A: know who the fook he even is!

Answer me this, apart from Chris Eubank Jr name any other opponent of Conor Benn’s? Don’t worry, I can’t either.

All this deal is:

  • a big FUCK U spite-sandwich to Dana’s new love-rival, Eddie Hearn.
  • To put the boxing world on notice that there’s a Great Dana White circling the contracts of fighters with fewer than 2 fights remaining.
  • I wonder where we’ve seen this before… LIV golf, anyone?

The big winners are boxers. More promotions, more competition and more belts (more on this later) equals more money.

The losers: UFC fighters, there is a disproportionate pay-out to UFC fighters following the new Paramount deal, which I’m sure you’re already aware of.

But in case you didn’t know, Zuffa is part of the larger corporate structure within TKO Holdings. This means that profits generated by the UFC will be subsidising Zuffa Boxing to pay for this $15m taking-the-absolute-piss, Conor Benn deal!

Imagine that. You’re Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira or Islam Makhachev, a much bigger star than the guy Zuffa just signed for 10x what you got paid in your last fight, and you generated that money for him! It’s got to sting.

I mentioned above that I was happy to see this and I’m sure you think you know why, so let me ring that bell for you.

I’m happy because I’m certain Dana is eventually going to get his arse POWERSLAPPED by Eddie Hearn.

In the world of MMA, the UFC has absolute control. 95% market share and a MMA-monopoly under the authoritarian Dana White dictatorship.

  • He controls which media can ask what questions.
  • He controls the purse-strings that never seem able to open wide enough.
  • Which fighter receive the bonus awarded every card.
  • He selects which fighters get the relevant title shots.
  • And he does all his promotion behind an iPhone 5 production via Instagram live. Quality!
  • And this is why Zuffa, competing within the free world of Boxing, will achieve little.

Zuffa’s plan is to change boxing under the model of the UFC.

  • 1 Belt
  • 1 Champion
  • The best will fight the best, no more ducking, no more running.
  • For that to happen, the WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA titles will have to dissolve. Together these titles boast over 200 years of heritage, history and prestige that I’m sure have the proficiency and capability to survive a fat Phil Mitchell impersonator and the-less-than-exciting Meta Apex Arena.

Mark my words, all Zuffa Boxing will accomplish is add a 5th title to the mix, ANOTHER title athletes will fight for, the exact opposite of what they set out to achieve.

When Dana fails at this you can be sure he’ll be tossed aside by Turki Al-Sheik like the POWERSLAP promoter he’s turned out to be.

    Good Luck to him.
